Electroepilation hair removal

How does electrolysis hair removal treatment work?

Sterex electrolysis is a hair removal treatment that provides permanent results. It is mainly used on the face, particularly for coarse hair on the lip, chin or neck. A method of epilation called shortwave diathermy is used to heat the hair follicle, which in time will shut off the blood supply to stop the hair from growing.

Our highly trained clinicians insert a very thin wire into the hair follicle under the surface of the skin. An electric current is then aimed at the base of the follicle, permanently destroying it and removing any existing hair.

FAQs

Electrolysis hair removal is not a painful treatment, but you may feel a ‘pin-prick’, tingle or warming sensation during the procedure. Some people find the treatment uncomfortable, whereas others enjoy the sensation. Stress or time of menstruation in women can make the treatment more sensitive.

The number of electrolysis treatments you will need is dependent on your individual case, level of hair growth and the area you are having treated. We see you for a consultation appointment before your treatment to ensure you are suitable and give you an indication of the amount of sessions required.

Results from electrolysis hair removal treatment are permanent, as the blood supply to the hair follicles is shut off, stopping the hair from growing. Indeed, electrolysis is the only proven permanent method of hair removal.

Both electrolysis and laser treatment are effective at removing unwanted hair. However, laser is more limited and does not provide permanent results. Laser treatment can also not be used for people with white or grey hair, as it requires pigment in order to work. If you are interested in hair removal, we will go through your options in detail and find the best one for you.

Yes, when the procedure is carried out by a qualified and trained clinician, electrolysis hair removal treatment is completely safe. Modern technology means electrolysis is even more effective than ever, and is a safe, effective and affordable treatment. At your initial consultation, we make sure you are suitable for treatment and answer your questions or queries.
