How does Microneedling work?

Ultra-fine needles penetrate the skin at different depths, creating micro-channels which stimulate a wound healing response. This leads to the production of new collagen and elastin.

Once the micro-channels have been created, the electroporation technology releases electro-stimulating pulses to increase the permeability of the skin cell membrane. This allows for increased absorption of serums applied to the skin, for hydrated, healthy skin. Microneedling combined with electroporation significantly increases the amount of serum delivered to the skin compared with traditional microneedling treatments.

Results can be seen after one session, but a minimum of three and up to six treatments, at 4-week intervals, deliver the best results depending on the skin concern.

FAQs

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a cosmetic procedure that involves the use of a device equipped with fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin’s surface. These micro-injuries stimulate the body’s natural healing process, prompting the production of collagen and elastin. As the skin repairs itself, it becomes smoother, firmer, and more evenly toned.

Microneedling is generally safe and effective for most skin types and a variety of concerns. It can be customised to address specific issues, including signs of ageing, acne scars, stretch marks, and uneven pigmentation. However, it’s essential to consult with a qualified provider to determine if microneedling is the right treatment for your unique skin type and concerns.

There is virtually no downtime after microneedling treatment. A slight swelling and redness are present immediately post-treatment but should subside quickly. You may experience slight discomfort when the needles penetrate the skin, but this feeling is short-lived. Particularly pain-sensitive patients can have numbing cream applied by our clinicians before treatment.

The number of microneedling sessions required varies depending on individual skin concerns and goals. For general skin rejuvenation, a series of treatments, usually spaced 4-6 weeks apart, may be recommended. For specific issues like acne scars or stretch marks, more sessions may be needed. Maintenance treatments can also be performed periodically to sustain results.

Most patients see an improvement in the appearance, texture and tightness of the skin 2 to 3 weeks after the first treatment. Better yet, your results continue to improve up to 12 weeks after the final treatment.

Scarring and stretch marks are very common concerns. The process of microneedling and electroporation helps the body produce new collagen and elastin, which will minimise fine lines, smooth out uneven textures and reduce any discolouration for acne scars, surgical scars, traumatic scars and stretch marks. The electroporation technology, when used alongside advanced serums, will rehydrate the area of concern. Results can be seen after one session, but a minimum of 3 and up to 8 treatments, at 4-week intervals, deliver the best results depending on the skin concern.

Microneedling and electroporation use a HD Celluma Serum to infuse the scalp with growth factors, skin proteins and vitamins designed to nourish and stimulate hair follicles. This treatment will lead to fuller, healthier-looking hair. A minimum of six and up to 16 treatments, at weekly intervals, are needed to deliver the best results.
