How does skin rejuvenation treatment work?

During IPL skin rejuvenation treatment, precisely controlled short pulses of light are released, targeting areas of discolouration to create a more youthful and even complexion. This light also stimulates fibroblast cells, leading to an increase in collagen and elastin production which improves skin texture and smooths lumps and bumps. Firmer and tighter skin can also be achieved.

During the treatment, a light applicator is placed onto your skin which releases the light in carefully planned bursts, bespoke to you. The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring position until the entire area is treated successfully.

FAQs

IPL skin rejuvenation treatment is suitable for most people. Before you commit to treatment, we see you for a thorough consultation to discuss the procedure in detail and make sure it is right for you. We also carry out a patch test on your skin.

IPL skin rejuvenation treatment can be mildly uncomfortable but it is not painful and local anaesthetic is not necessary. You will experience a quick pin prick and a warm feeling, which many people find more pleasant than uncomfortable.

For best results, we recommend you have six IPL skin rejuvenation treatments, each spaced 2-3 weeks apart. After you have completed a course of treatment, top-up sessions can be booked as required, usually once or twice per year.

After your treatment, it is normal to see some redness in your skin and feel a slight warming sensation. You may also see any pigmented spots darkening before they flake off and reveal a more even skin tone.

Your skin may be red and slightly swollen after treatment but this usually fades quickly. In rare cases, blistering may form or the skin darken or lighten temporarily. However, for most patients, no side effects are present.
